A photographic profile of Don Smith, sexton of Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, GA. Smith has served as sexton since 2017 and oversees the cemetery’s operations and historical preservation initiatives. Previously, he worked as the cemetery’s general manager. His major project as sexton has been preserving and constructing a retaining wall in the historic West Hill grounds that allows for the creation of new plots. (March 29, 2022)
